Ulsan's Ulju County is moving ahead with plans to leverage drones for wildfire surveillance and avian influenza prevention, aiming to accelerate the "drone era."

The county announced on the 27th that it will operate 24-hour wildfire surveillance drones as part of a demonstration within the Drone Special Free Zone, set to run until December 31.

The drones will be deployed at the Complex Welcome Center (Sangbuk Deungeok Alps 517) and Hwajangsan Sage (Sangbuk Hyangsan-ri 60), and will be provided by SKYSYS, a participating company in the Drone Special Free Zone

The tethered drones (SKYEYE-150) will cover a radius of 5-10 km for continuous monitoring.

To maximize the effectiveness of wildfire surveillance, advanced features such as infrared functionality, automatic monitoring, coordinate extraction, remote control, and automatic notification systems will be implemented.

Captured footage will be transmitted to Ulju County’s integrated drone control center and wildfire personnel.

In case of detecting wildfires or safety incidents, swift communication will enable prompt actions to prevent large-scale wildfires.

Ulju County plans to include wildfire surveillance content in its bid for the second designation of the Drone Special Free Zone.

An official from Ulju County stated, "We expect that operating drones 24 hours a day will allow us to actively respond to wildfire prevention and safety accidents," and added, "At a time when highly pathogenic avian influenza pathogens are being detected nationwide, we aim to enhance the effectiveness of quarantine efforts using drones."
