Uljugun has captured the attention of visitors by showcasing a variety of distinctive drones and infrastructure.
The region presented six types of drones with different functions, including simple tasks like delivery, monitoring, crime prevention, wildfire prevention, urban management, and radiation measurement.
Additionally, Uljugun introduced a crowd management system capable of efficiently handling large gatherings.
By using drones, the system can monitor and count the number of people in real-time, allowing for the prevention of potential safety incidents.
This system was successfully implemented during this year's New Year's Day event at Ganjeolgot, proving its effectiveness.
The region plans to go further by moving beyond "Perrin estimation methods" used for guest counts.
Instead, they aim to gather accurate data on visitor numbers through this system, which can be applied to various other sectors, such as tourism.
Among the many drones showcased, the most attention-grabbing was the tethered drone, 'Helikite,' designed for wildfire monitoring.
Manufactured by a local company in Ulsan, the Helikite is a lightweight tethered unmanned aerial vehicle that uses helium to lift cameras for efficient large-area monitoring.
It also features AI functionality that automatically sends alerts to the control center when a fire is detected.
Introduced in Uljugun in 2021, the Helikite was later adopted by Ulsan City in 2023. Currently, a total of four Helikites are in operation, providing 24-hour surveillance during the wildfire season.
With the Helikite playing a significant role in wildfire prevention, it has garnered significant interest from regions in Gangwon-do, where wildfires are more frequent.
An official from Uljugun remarked, “Various organizations and local governments are showing great interest in the drone-related initiatives being conducted in Uljugun.
As a leading city in drone innovation, Uljugun will continue to push for further advancements.”
